Hotels gear up for tourist influx during festive season

Hotels around the most popular sites across Bali are preparing for an increasing influx of tourists planning to spend their Christmas and New Year's Eve holidays on the island.

Some hotels have already experienced a surge in reservations from foreign and domestic tourists.

Patra Bali Resort and Villas, located in Kuta, are almost fully booked for the festive season

"Ninety percent of our 206 rooms and 22 villas have been booked for the last week of December until the first week of January, mostly by Australians. There are also some Japanese, European, and domestic tourists," anton said.

She said that most of the reservations were made through travel agencies working in cooperation with the hotel, while the rest were made by the customers.

The Intercontinental Resort in Jimbaran is also preparing for the upcoming peak season.

"Most of our rooms are already reserved for the Christmas and New Year's Eve, but we're still expecting more guests. At least we still have more than a month ahead," said the resort's public relations director, Dewi Anggraini.

"We are also preparing some events for the New Year's Eve celebration," she added.

Westin Resort in Nusa Dua has half of its 342 rooms reserved for the year-end holiday. Most of the guests booked the rooms for between five nights to two weeks.

"We are expecting more reservations by mid November," said public relations director Renata Tjoa.

Renata said the resort would hold a special event titled Nusantara on New Year's Eve, presenting dances and cultural performances from across Indonesia.

Ratna Eka Soebrata, acting chairperson of the Bali and Nusa Tenggara branch of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), said the last week of the year until early January was always the busiest time for hotels and tourist operators, which usually saw hotels overbooked.

"European tourists usually reserve one year ahead," she said, adding that Europeans, especially the Dutch, were among the most frequent visitors to Bali besides Australians.

Not only are foreign tourists interested in spending their New Year holiday in Bali, domestic tourists from Java also flock to the island, driving their private cars and creating congestion in some main tourist sites.

Getting the Best Hotel

When visiting out of town, in general, the targeted residence is a hotel, compared to the inn or motel. But, whether you choose hotels that are most suited to their wishes, or just sleep it ride? Follow these tips to make a hotel reservation.

• Call your Travel Agent. Travel Agent must have a price or an interesting promotion for a hotel. Ask for explanations about the condition of hotels and hotel suggestions other better.

• Travel Agent has complete data about hotels and other accommodation and most importantly the status of the room. You do not want to come and rejected for the full room right?

• Buy a guidebook about the city, especially if you're not too familiar territory. Read the inn and surrounding area lodging accommodations choices.

• Plan your arrival and departure dates. If possible, choose a time 'non-holiday', because the high season, the inn often raise prices, and not a few who add a special surcharge for high season.

• More area lodging usually depends on the activity you want to do, be it for business or just a jolly picnic or to explore the arts and culture.

• Search and select two or three hotels are included in your budget.

Call the hotel each clan clan inform the date of arrival your departure, and the requirements of the room you want. Check room rates and packages for families, such as price or special programs for children, as well as other deals.

• Ask what services you get from the price of the room. Is breakfast included? Afternoon tea? Shuttle to the airport from the clan?

• Ask about extra perangkatperangkat that may be important to you, such as: refrigerator, hair dryer, iron, gym, restaurant in the hotel area, pool, video or DVD player, movie rentals, wheelchair access and accommodation petfriendly.

• Provide information to the operator of discount hotels or bonus that may be obtained from the room price. This could include membership of a particular club, or bank customers, frequent flyer members of other airlines and so on. Make sure the bonuses are already included in the final calculation of the price of the room.

• Make a list of comparisons between price and service from the hotel choices you've prepared. And remember to ask for a non-smoking room or not.

• Record the reservation code to then be given to front office staff at check-in.

• Find out about the cancellation policy of the hotel. Each hotel has different rules. And if you cancel without notifying the hotel within the specified time, you will be charged for one night.

Enjoy the next holiday at your dream hotel!

Abu Dhabi Department of Transport announces public parking management strategy

The Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi (DoT) today announced details of its Public Parking Management Strategy – a multi-phased approach to reducing congestion in Abu Dhabi.

Designed to address the problems associated with a lack of access to parking spaces, the strategy provides short- and immediate-term solutions including: increasing the numbers of parking spaces in key identified areas; the introduction of paid parking; enforcement of time limits to increase vehicle turn-over and prevent the misuse of limited street level spaces; residents’ parking schemes; and park-and-ride options in identified ‘hot-spots’. These measures will be phased in from Q4 this year.

The DoT also announced tariffs for the first time today – with a charge for premium parking on main streets set at AED3 per hour and an AED2 per hour charge in other locations. Residents’ permits will cost AED800 per year for the first car, and AED1200 per year for a second car, if applicable.

Eng. Najib Al Zarooni, Director of Parking, Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi, said: “This programme is about introducing the first, short term measures in a much longer term strategy that is a critical part of Government and DoT plans to ensure that Abu Dhabi becomes a greener, more accessible, less congested capital.

“This is just the first step, but we believe these measures will result in visible improvements by year end, with less congestion, fewer illegally parked vehicles, and a better understanding among car owners of the need to park correctly to support the free flow of traffic through our Emirate. It is a fairer, more transparent system that benefits residents and supports local businesses.”

For the first time in the capital, a cross-government agency Parking Committee has been formed to ensure an integrated and streamlined approach to tackling issues associated with parking.

Members include senior representatives from the Urban Planning Council, Abu Dhabi Municipality, Abu Dhabi Police and the Department of Transport.

As part of the strategy for developing long term solutions, studies are also underway to examine sites for the development of public car park buildings in several locations across Abu Dhabi.

Two of these sites were announced today with the Parking Committee working on final plans for facilities in these areas.

In coordination with other strategic partners, the DoT is also examining street level parking enhancements including quick built temporary steel structures and enhanced road surface and layouts which create additional spaces within areas.

Problems associated with parking in city centre areas have increased as Abu Dhabi’s population expands, and as the number of drivers and car-owners has risen.

Between 2005 and 2008, the number of registered vehicles in the Emirate increased by an average of 16 per cent per annum, and the number of people holding licenses rose by 10%per annum, over the same period.

The Public Parking Management Strategy has been developed using the very latest sector technology, and in future will include the option to pay parking fees via mobile phone or smart card.

The smart cards will also be capable of integration with other payment and ticketing systems across the public transport network in future.

Residents will also benefit from an advanced electronic parking system, while the control and management of the entire programme is to be integrated into a central computer system which monitor the performance across every project element.
